Type & Display
The display typeface for Grendel is UnifrakturCook. Due to legibility, this is only used in the Grendel wordmark and in specific decorative situations. The secondary typeface is Spline Sans. Spline Sans has the characters Old English requires built into its glyph set, but in a more legible sans serif format.
Characters and colors are based on marginalia in medieval manuscripts. They use black outlines textured like ink and simple color schemes. Windows and sparkles have sharper lines to bring a contrasting modernity.
